2011 Ford Explorer
Below are a few spy shots of the next generation Ford Explorer, believed to be a 2011 model. The next Explorer is said to move to a car-based platform, the D4, which underpins the Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT. Ford has confirmed that a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost, and a 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost will power the next Explorer. There is speculation that the production version of next Explorer will debut at NYIAS. Expect the Explorer to more or less follow the design of the Ford Explorer America Concept revealed at Detroit in 2008.

Heres to the hope that they will find a way to get the new Bronce concept into production. That would fill the void nicely. Nice repalcement for the 90's to mid 2000 explorers

2011 Explorer caught testing, almost uncovered!
Looking great! This could be the vehicle that gets me back into a Ford, for sure!
Official photos and information should surface in July, via the "Ford Explorer" FaceBook fan page. http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...uncovered.html |

Unfortunately, the market has changed and Ford must follow suit in order to sell vehicles. GM's Lambda vehicles are great and have been selling well since they were introduced. I'm sure this Explorer will be just as big of a hit when it goes on sale. The upside is, that the Tahoe/Yukon and Suburban/Yukon XL as well as the Expedition are to remain BOF to cater to those with great people hauling/towing needs.
Anyway, I'll be sure to watch the unveiling of the Explorer and update this thread accordingly. I'm definitely excited as Ford has been putting out some great product lately! |

Ford has officially unveiled the 2011 Ford Explorer today. They have confirmed 2 engine options, including a 2.0 EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine rated at 237hp (said to be 30% more fuel efficient than outgoing V6), and a 3.5 V6 rated at 290hp. More information about the 2011 Explorer can be found here

Personally, I think it looks great! Love the exterior, and the interior appears to be top notch.
Ford is clearly on a roll lately with the updated 2011 Edge, the new Taurus, the 2011 Fiesta (which I drove during a promo back in October), and now the new Explorer. Their progress has shown with their recent posting of earning a 2.6 billion dollar profit for the second quarter of 2010, totaling 5 billion in profit for the first half of 2010. Ford is said to have lost 2.5 billion in the same timeframe in 2009. |

I like it. Might be a few years before I can afford a 2011 model though

My soon to be wife and I have been looking at new cars to replace her 2008 Rabbit (although we'll probably keep the Rabbit around) in about a year or so. Naturally, I'd like to get another Audi (Q5 3.2) but I don't think that's realistic right now, being that I'm not working and we're getting married in December and picking up the tabs ourselves. I've had my eye on literally 25 vehicles, and after seeing this 2011 Explorer, I think it's safe to say that this is for sure, the vehicle that will get me back in a Ford dealership next year.

Not a huge fan.
Well, I like the car (a lot, actually), I just wished they had kept a true honest-to-goodness midsized truck in their lineup. I feel like their lineup is going to be too crowded with this and the Edge, which is also great with its new redesign.

well look at the GM lineup....talk about crowded w/all the unibody crossovers they have.
to me its not truly just a big station wagon :( it looks ok, but too carlike. but like you said thats where the market is at right now. i'd like to see one with a 6.2 V8 in it ![]() |
