How To: Underbody Painting

Overview
This is a fairly easy and inexpensive mod that will really help the look of your vehicle's underbody.


Required Material
- Newspaper and masking tape
- Bottle of Simple Green cleaner
- Wire Brush
- 2 cans of Rust-oleum Rusty Metal Primer
- 2 cans of Rust-oleum Flat Black enamel
- Power Washer (optional)
- Maintenance Manual for your Vehicle's Year/Make/Model (optional)
Procedure
- First, take the wire brush to everything that you want to paint. Be sure to scrub very hard so as to remove any rust and debris that may exist.
- Spray everything that was just scrubbed with simple green and let it set for about 30 minutes.
- After it sets, use the power washer to rinse everything off. Let everything air dry.
- Tape off and cover all the components you don't want painted with the newspaper and masking tape.
- Apply the rust primer to all the areas you want to paint. Let this application dry for about 15-20 minutes.
- Take the black enamel spray and go over the same pieces. Let dry for 30-45 minutes.
- Repeat Step 6.
In the end you'll be rewarded with something like this:
All in all, this mod was a A+ mod to do. Make sure you have a nice sunny day and several hours on your hands to do this.
