How To: Underbody Painting

Overview

This is a fairly easy and inexpensive mod that will really help the look of your vehicle's underbody.





Required Material

• Newspaper and masking tape
• Bottle of Simple Green cleaner
• Wire Brush
• 2 cans of Rust-oleum Rusty Metal Primer
• 2 cans of Rust-oleum Flat Black enamel
  
  
  
• Power Washer (optional)
  
  
  
  
  
• Maintenance Manual for your Vehicle's Year/Make/Model (optional)

Procedure

1. First, take the wire brush to everything that you want to paint. Be sure to scrub very hard so as to remove any rust and debris that may exist.
   
   
2. Spray everything that was just scrubbed with simple green and let it set for about 30 minutes.
   
   
3. After it sets, use the power washer to rinse everything off. Let everything air dry.
   
   
4. Tape off and cover all the components you don't want painted with the newspaper and masking tape.
   
   
5. Apply the rust primer to all the areas you want to paint. Let this application dry for about 15-20 minutes.
   
   
6. Take the black enamel spray and go over the same pieces. Let dry for 30-45 minutes.
   
   
7. Repeat Step 6.
   
   In the end you'll be rewarded with something like this:
   
   
   
   
   All in all, this mod was a A+ mod to do. Make sure you have a nice sunny day and several hours on your hands to do this.
