How To: Lower Windshield Wipers
Submitted By: Big Dan
Overview
It's amazing how a simple and cheap (read: free) mod can really improve the appearance of your vehicle.
Lowering your windshield wipers gives the front of your vehicle a much cleaner look and also provide for
a less restricted view for the driver. Not to mention, it takes all of five minutes and has no cost!
I performed this mod on a 2000 Explorer. Make sure to check the maintenance manual for your make,
model, and year to see if this kind of mod is applicable to your vehicle.

Required Material
- Small Flat Head Screwdriver (optional)
- Maintenance Manual for your Vehicle's Year/Make/Model
Procedure
- Sit in your vehicle and get a feel for where your windshield wipers are now. You may want to turn
them on and off to see where the travel of the wipers starts and ends. You may want to take some
BEFORE pictures to help compare the differences.
- Repeat Step 1, but on the outside of the vehicle. Taking the time to recognize the current
position of the wipers will help you appreciate the change this mod can make.
- Locate the driver's side Wiper Arm Hub and release the latch as shown in the picture below.
You may use a small flat-head screwdriver for this task, but it is not necessary.

- Remove the Wiper Arm from the drive and rotate it to its new position.
- To install the Wiper Arm at its new position, simply press it onto the drive adn re-engage the latch
by pushing it back in place.
- Repeat Steps 3-5 for the passenger side Wiper Arm. You may want to take some AFTER
pictures for comparison purposes
