How To: Change Air Filter

Submitted By: Pointblanksta

Overview

One of the simplest maintenance duties on all vehicles is changing the air filter. A clean air filter can lead to improved gas milage, a cleaner engine and a smoother ride. Many people neglect to perform this simple procedure, and their entire vehicle loses efficiency. Be sure to consult your owner's manual to find out what size filter your vehicle requires.

Procedure
First begin by opening your hood and locating your air box. This box contains your air filter. On some vehicles, this box is rectangular.

Most air boxes have one or more latches on them that keep the box together. Locate these latches.

Release the latch. You will notice that the air box is made up of two halves. One houses your air filter and the other leads to the engine. Pull the two apart to expose the air filter. *note* Depending on application, the filter may also be flat.

Remove your dirty air filter by simply pulling it out of the housing. Discard this filter and get a new one. Be sure that it is identical.

Slide the new filter into the air box. Be sure that it is secure, or the air box will not close correctly.

Slowly align the two parts of the housing.

Simply tighten the latches, close the hood and enjoy your clean air filter.

Note: This procedure differs for aftermarket air intakes. Consult the manufacturer if you have one of these.
