Submitted By: Ahhjaws
Overview
This article is a step-by-step procedure for changing the rear outer axle seals on your vehicle.

Required Material
- Jack & Jackstands
- Hammer
- Socket Set
- Pliers
- Axle Seal
- Socket as wide as seal
- Differential Fluid
- Differential cover gasket
Procedure
- Place the rear axle on jack stands. Remove the tires and brake drums.
- Remove the differential cover and drain the fluid.
- Rotate the gears so that the pinion shaft and bolt are visible. Unscrew the blot and the
pinion shaft should slide out. Push the axle shaft towards the center of the vehicle and remove
the C-lock with pliers.

- Remove the axleshaft from the housing.

- Using a hammer, pull out the old seal. Be careful not to damage the bearing.

- Install the new seal by tapping the seal with a hammer via a socket as big as the seal. Make sure
that the seal goes in straight.

- Replace the axle shaft and reverse the disassembly process to reassemble. Refill the differential
fluid to the correct level.
